Candy Corn, the Halloween Vegetable of Faith

[From the archives.]

My tip for a nutritious Halloween meal:

Candy corn is my favorite Halloween treat. Caramel apples have their appeal, of course, but candy corn has a certain je ne sais quoi that can’t be denied. And you know it’s a classy snack because I used French to talk about it.

A Tasty Faith

Faith – the kind that makes a difference – is something you can sink your teeth into.

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8.)

After all, when you trust someone enough that you look to them refuge you are saying that you have faith in their ability to protect you. God is so good that those who have faith in him can taste it.

What does this trusting faith look like? It looks like a relationship with Jesus. He told his friends,

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. … Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:1, 9.)

What we see in Jesus is who our trustworthy God is. In him our troubled hearts find refuge. That is a tasty faith to have, a delicacy beyond anything the world has to offer.

It’s even better than candy corn.

  1. Pastor Bob says:

    Some analogies:
-Spiritual food is not like Candy Corn, some now- some later, never really enough, not all that good in the long term.
-This not one of the Fruit of the Spirit.
    – A little of the less than healthy is not all too bad, but too much certainly is.

Maybe………… we should call it “Candy Corn, the Halloween Vegetable of Fat” ….?

    Enjoy your weekend.

  2. Denise says:

When my grandkids hear the ice cream truck, my daughter tells them that the vegetable truck is coming: we are certain there is high fructose CORN syrup in there somewhere!
And, yes, how wonderful to taste the goodness of the LORD! He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things! Psalm 107:9
