Water Circles


Drops strike and disappear
Ripples spread
Circle to circle to circle to circle to circle

With each drop the pool spreads
Its breadth
Over sand and rock and tree and mountaintop

It rises and covers
And washes new
The flower, the pine, the newborn, the wizened sage

Christ the flood, the spring
The spreading pool
Each drop and ripple and circle his presence

You thirst, He rains
Water of life
For child and beast and flower and forest and …

Drink and live
And ever and ever and ever and
